over a period of 9 months, i only came across one filipino in my apartment complex. unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to get each other’s contact details as we just accidentally bumped into each other in the building’s lift.
on my way back to indonesia from my easter vacation, i had a very quick exchange with this guy who is also set to fly to jakarta while queueing for the owwa certification in terminal 3. fast forward to my arrival in my apartment lobby in jakarta, the same man that i was talking to in naia 3 was also entering my apartment’s lobby! we then figured out that there are 3 pinoys living in casablanca mansion! so we just exchanged numbers and promised to get in touch with each other should there be pinoy gimmicks in town.
that weekend, he then invited me to meet with the other pinoys in our area. compared to his pinoy network, mine is just very few – if i were to count, i only know less than 10 pinoys here. that weekend turned out to be a filipino community weekend for me and it did turn out quite fun and interesting – watched a batik fashion show (as the shop owner’s husband is pinoy), tried out a new korean resto, drank vodka tonic til dusk and enjoyed a hefty brunch the day after. but in a nutshell, it’s still the company of people (whom you know has the same mindset as yours) that marked the fun difference. would definitely hangout with these people again!
